My journey into Jyotisha started not with a clear plan, but with a heartfelt longing—my questions grew bigger than the answers I could find. My story is about nourishing an intellectual and spiritual hunger and about discovering my true path. Beneath it all, there was a deeper discomfort: a feeling that I was struggling to live as a typical Capricorn Sun and trying to align my life with that identity. It didn’t feel right.
My sincere spiritual journey through the Vedas guided me in a new direction. I quietly knew inside that Jyotisha was where I truly belonged. The path opened to me through grace rather than a calculated plan. During a Vedic reading, the astrologer shared that I am a Sagittarius Sun along with many other details; I felt as if I had been bathed in the Light of Ishwara. Something that had felt a bit lost finally became clear to me. I was then gently guided to study at the American College of Vedic Astrology (ACVA). From there, the tradition led her all the way. I have never looked back since.
Reflecting on those special moments, I am reminded every time of how grace moves—quietly, indirectly, and always toward the Light.

Origin
Vedic astrology is one of the Vedangas, or limbs, of the Vedic scriptures, which are India's ancient sacred texts, dating back over 8,000 years.
The Sanskrit term for Vedic astrology is Jyotish. It combines 'Jyoti,' meaning 'light,” and 'ish,' a prefix for God or Ishwar. Thus, Jyotish translates to 'the light of God,' 'science of light,' or 'made of light.' This “light” isn't a visual frequency perceived by our eyes but a spiritual illumination emanating from the Galaxy's centre, influencing intelligence of creation and life on Earth. It guides the seven rays of creation and structures the karmic matrices—the law of cause and effect that governs all beings.
Purpose
Jyotish is a science that analyzes and synthesizes interplanetary rhythms and relationships based on the cosmic astronomical movements that influence individuals and events. As such, it constitutes a tool for self-knowledge that focuses on the soul’s spiritual evolution. It is based on the premise that the individual has responsibility over their mental habits and repetitive karmic patterns. Vedic astrology’s highest purpose is to harmonize the soul with the lawful cosmic forces and its evolutionary goal.
Planets are Alive
The planets are celestial entities that are incarnations of Vishnu (Divine Mother) whose only wish is to remind us of our divine nature. We are not passive victims of destiny, for the soul, being eternal, transcends the chart and the planets.
Differences Between Western Astrology and Vedic Astrology
Vedic astrology is based on sidereal measurements, taking into account the actual positions of stars in the cosmos, while Western astrology relies on star positions relative to the seasons.
This results in a difference of 24 degrees less in the planetary positions on the Vedic chart.
Furthermore, Vedic astrology has not been altered by empirical reasoning. It has stayed authentic, just as the ancient sages (rishis) received it from the devas through their intuition and divine inner sight (Divya Drishti).
About astrology the spiritual master, Sri Yukteswar, stated:
“Astrology is the study of man’s response to planetary stimuli. The stars have no conscious benevolence or animosity; they merely send forth positive and negative radiations. Of themselves, these do not help or harm humanity, but offer a lawful channel for the outward operation or cause-effect equilibriums which each man has set into motion in the past.
“A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma. His horoscope is a challenging portrait, revealing his unalterable past and its probable future results.
The message boldly blazoned across the heavens at the moment of birth is not meant to emphasize fate – the result of past good and evil – but to arouse man’s will to escape from his universal thralldom. What he has done, he can undo. None other than himself was the instigator of the causes of whatever effects are now prevalent in his life. “
This suggests that individual actions should support a person’s destiny. The core idea of Vedic astrology is to guide us in using our personal power and judgment when making life choices.
